School Day Unlikely to be Lengthened for 2011–2012 School Year

There is no anticipated increase in the length of the school day for the 2011–2012 school year.

In June 2010, the school board voted to extend the school day by thirty minutes—from six and one-half hours to seven hours—per a recommendation by Superintendent Larry Waters. The extension was recommended to help accommodate the sharp increases in educational requirements mandated by the Vermont Department of Education.

After the Teachers Association challenged the extension, the superintendent recommended that the measure be rescinded. While the matter is currently in negotiations, the length of the school day is not expected to be affected for the coming school year.
