Colchester Creativity Shines at the Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament

Colchester teams compete at VT OM Tournament

Colchester was well represented with six teams, at the Vermont State Odyssey of the Mind tournament this weekend at CVU High School in Hinesburg.   This tournament brings teams from all over Vermont to present their solutions to long-term problems that they have been working on for several months.

The teams included the following students:

CMS Vehicle Team, Division 2 coached by Mary Fran Holly: Oliver Alvarez, Cole Fenton, Alex Hall, Quinn Holly, Ayden Lloyd-Newberry, Logan Mock, Kyrill Serdyuk

MBS Vehicle Team, Division 1 coached by Stephanie Fournier: Matthew Fournier, Owen Grenier, Abigail Hoag, Maeve MacAuley, Rowan MacArdle and Jackson McBride

MBS Classics Team, Division 1 coached by Tamara Tobin: Aviana Fenton, Remington Hardy, Aurianna Quintyne, Sophie Schuyler, and Bryleigh Tobin

MBS Balsa Team A, Division 1 coached by Catherine Dimitruk: Gideon Alvarez, Ethan Ferenc, Sylvie Gratton, Molly Labreque, Theo Odom, Ryan Thatcher, and Eva Youlen

MBS Balsa Team B, Division 1 coached by Matthew and Melissa Farnam: Aiyana Baldasty, Joseph Donerkiel, Ali Emam, Tucker Farnam, Layla Hamed, Julien Puttlitz, and Acadie Petrie

MBS Drama Team, Division 1 coached by Joni Pecor: Tyler Blanchard, Ava Burdick, Jared Carensale,   Molly  Kane , Sasha Kulapin( Homeschooler),  Ella Pecor , and Tyler Ryan

Several trophies were awarded to our Colchester teams for their highly creative problem solving skills. The Vehicle Problem Division 1 team won 1st place.   Second and third place trophies went to our Balsa Team A and B, respectively, and our MBS Drama Team won a 3rd place trophy which included a musical performance.   Colchester Middle School team was awarded the “Ranatra Fusca” Award for their highly creative propulsion system on their vehicle.   The Ranatra Fusca Award is given to the team for their display of tremendous creativity, risk-taking, and out-of-the-box thinking. The first, second and Ranatra Fusca awarded teams have all earned the privilege to compete against teams from countries all over the World at Iowa State University this spring at the World Finals. Donations to help support the student’s trip to Odyssey of the Mind may be made to OOTM, c/o Malletts Bay School, 609 Blakely Road, Colchester VT 05446. District Art Show at CHS - May 3-6, 2016

The annual Colchester School District Art Show will be held in the gym at Colchester High School on May 3-6, 2016.  The show will be open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Artwork from each school in the district will be on exhibit.  A reception for artists, families, and the Colchester community will be held on Thursday night, May 5 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., granting the artists the opportunity to discuss their work.  We hope that you will join us in celebrating the creativity and talent of our students!

Make an Appointment for Kindergarten Registration!



It’s that time of year again—time to register for kindergarten! This registration is for children who will attend public kindergarten in Colchester during the 2016/2017 school year.

Children must be five years old before September 1, 2016.


Parents must bring the following items to registration (without this paperwork, your child may not start school):

  • Immunization Records - Please get a copy now from your child’s doctor and bring it with you at the time of registration. This information is required by the Vermont Department of Health.
  • Birth Certificate
  • Proof of Residency
One of the following documents is required to verify residency in Colchester, Vermont.


Two of the following documents are required to verify residency in Colchester, Vermont.
  • A current property tax bill
  • Current mortgage papers/closing statement showing a Colchester address and the name of the legal parent/guardian, or custodian
  • Formal lease showing the name, address, and telephone number of the landlord; Colchester address and name of lessee
  • A notarized letter from the landlord stating the address of the residence being leased and the name(s) of the lessee(s) with the landlord’s address and telephone number
  • Valid Vermont driver’s license with Colchester address
  • Valid Vermont non-driver ID with Colchester address
  • Current utility bill in your name, with Colchester address
  • Valid public aid card
  • Bank statement for last or current month (financial information omitted) with Colchester address


On the day of the registration, your child will take part in a 2 hour screening. Parents do not accompany their child during the screening process.

Colchester High School Music Performance Announcements

CHS Choral and Band Students Perform in the New England Music Festival

In December, several Colchester High School choral and band students auditioned for the opportunity to participate in the 2016 New England Music Festival. Nine CHS choral students and one CHS band student were selected to perform in this year’s festival hosted by Gilford High School (NH) over three days in March.

 CHS Jazz Band To Perform at Shelburne Museum

April is jazz appreciation month, and to celebrate, the Shelburne Museum hosts jazz concerts every Friday evening in April. The museum invited the CHS Jazz Band to participate in this year’s concert series. The CHS Jazz Band will perform on Friday, April 8 from 6 to 6:45 pm. Their performance will be followed by another local jazz group. The concert ends at 8 pm. Ticket prices are: $15 each (general admission) and $12 each (museum members). Please come out and support the CHS Jazz Band!
