CHS Science Labs

The Colchester School District Vision and Strategic Plan 2012–2017, developed collaboratively with our community, stresses the importance of high standards and expanded opportunities for our students; technology and digital literacy to educate, engage, and inform the greater Colchester community; and innovative and flexible approaches with a commitment to excellence.

And yet the science labs and classrooms at Colchester High School are considerably inadequate, placing our students at a direct disadvantage as they prepare for their futures in a progressively technological landscape.

In working toward this community vision and in order to better meet the instructional needs of our students and teachers, we envision a revitalized science lab and instructional center. We are working to design and organize recommendations to the community for enhanced facilities and offerings in order to ameliorate our students’ inadequate access to technology. In accordance with the Colchester School District Vision and Strategic Plan 2012–2017, our objective is to ““provide instant and open access to technology for all stakeholders in the Colchester community and establish best practices for the integration of technology.”

During this important collaborative process engaging a diverse partnership of community members, we are carefully considering a number of critical materials, including A Framework for K-12 Science Education: Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Core Ideas and the Vermont Science Curriculum and Standards.
